Project description
Project Name | Support our Community in the Codiv-19 and national lockdown |
Total Project coast (£) | £9,994 |
Funded by | The National Lottery Community Fund |
Our project aimed to reduce loneliness and help vulnerable refugees who are struggling to integrate into British society during the COVID-19 crisis. To achieve this aim, we established food and essential items delivery service and online training in ESOL, cultural education, and employment for refugees. A total of 119 adult individuals benefited from this project.
Achievement
Here is some evidence that shows how we achieved these aims:
We conducted a survey of everyone who took part in our project. 72% of people said they had made friends by attending our online sessions and that they now saw those friends outside of the group. 98% of people said they looked forward to the group activities as a time when they would get to chat with friendly people. This shows we successfully reduced isolation and provided an opportunity for people to spend time with one another.
We asked everyone who got the free food whether they felt they needed it or not. As a result of the project, 100% of people said they definitely needed and sent many thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund. This shows we successfully help our community to have some nice African food they desired.
There were twenty-five volunteers involved in running our project. Fifteen of these had not been involved in previous projects. Six were unemployed before the project began. By taking part they developed many skills, including organising and administering an online session, designing publicity, and leading a group activity. These experiences will make people more likely to find employment in the future.
Conclusion
As you can see, the funding you have provided has been very important for our group. We have run a successful project, and this has really improved things for a lot of people in our community. We have also gained valuable experience which will help us run new activities in the coming months. Our plan is to increase the number of social integration activities we run, so that we attract a wider range of people, and to focus especially on activities that could be accessible for refugees and Black, Asian and minority ethnic.
We would take this opportunity to say thank you to the National Lottery players for making this happen.
