Results of the votes of the President (Chairman) of Babondo in the United Kingdom

08 MAY 2018

Saturday, May 05, 2018, in the north of England, city of Sheffield, the BADONDO community in the United Kingdom, grouped in an organisation called United Kingdom M’bondo Community (UMC), proceeded to the elections of the new leader of BABONDO in this Country.
According to the Constitution of the UMC, every two years, a General Assembly is convened to vote an executive body for a mandate of two years, renewable only once. This body is made up of:

  1. A President or Chairman;
  2. A Vice-president or Vice-Chairman;
  3. A Secretary-General;
  4. And a Treasurer.

The Babondo residing throughout the United Kingdom massively responded to that great memorable event, to elect their new leader.
The event began with a short prayer to thank the good Lord and to ask for His help so that the ceremony could take place in an atmosphere of brotherhood.

The President of the Electoral Commission, Mr John Radjabu, invited Pastor BAKARI JUMA to give a speech on what the leader of Babondo Community should be. Some of the qualities of a leader are:

  • A good leader must be a true unifier of the people;
  • A good leader must have a sense of responsibility, integrity and zeal for the unity of the BaBembe people;
  • He must be a married man or a married woman;
  • He must abstain from intoxication in particular, the intoxication of power, the intoxication of women, the intoxication of money, etc …
  • A good leader must exercise restraint against any act of vandalism;
  • He must respect the norms and regulations of the UMC’s Constitution.
  • etc …
    After the speech of Pastor BAKARI, the President of the electoral commission invited the outgoing President of UMC, Mr Peter SIKAS, and his General Secretary to present the results of their mandate.

According to the general Secretary, during their mandate, they successfully worked together with all regional or state entities to reunite the BaBondo of the United Kingdom. They were also able to collect more than £7,000 contributed by the members.

This money has greatly helped the Bembe community, not only those who are living in the United Kingdom, but also that living in the Democratic Republic of Congo. One of the biggest successes of this money is the acquisition of the Centre des Jeunes in Baraka, FIZI, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr Peter Sikas has finally thanked the community for having trusted him by giving him the leadership of an entire community and then the responsibility of managing their money for two long years. He was able to encourage everyone to keep the unity and fraternity of the Bembe community.

Then the president of the electoral commission invited the two candidates and gave them ten minutes each to explain, to the voters, their visions and plans once elected.

The first candidate Mister ALENGE MWENENGOMA, resident of Manchester, began to criticize the outgoing committee for non-transparency in the management of the community fund. Since his opponent, Mr Camara, was part of that committee. Mr ALENGE indicated that there is no legal document which approves that the Centre de Jeunes in Baraka which, currently under construction, was indeed funded by UMC money.

He finally promised voters that he will help to build the centre and get legal documents approving that the centre is owned by UMC.
He also promised Babondo UK to maintain relations with local authorities so that there is at least one Centre de Jeunes of BaBondo community here in the United Kingdom.

As for the other candidate, Mr CAMARA, being currently representative of Babondo in the city of Norwich, he promised to use his experience in order to weave the bonds of brotherhood of the Bembe community of the United Kingdom.

After these two great performances, Mr John finally presented the list of all members registered to vote.

In the end, Mr ALENGE MWENENGOMA was elected with 69 votes to 51. He is the current representative or at least President of the Bembe community in the United Kingdom.
